Stewards of the Environment.
Decades before today's "green" movement, Sunbrella committed to exceeding industry benchmarks for environmental stewardship. Through ongoing initiatives with our vendors, trade partners and customers, we will continually stay in the forefront of protecting our environment while producing quality, high-performance textiles.
Sunbrella Contract was conceived and created with the same philosophy in mind. In fact, our fabrics' unique coloring process creates no wastewater and avoids harmful effluents associated with conventional dyeing processes. It also dramatically reduces water and energy consumption.
NSF/ANSI 336 COMPLIANCE AT SILVER LEVEL.
Glen Raven Custom Fabrics offers two Sunbrella Contract fabrics that have NSF/ANSI 336 Compliance at the Silver Level, making it the first company to declare compliance under the standard. A filling-face twill and plain weave canvas have obtained the Silver-Level stature, which provides the industry with a universal measurement and language for sustainability.
The NSF/ANSI 336 Standard is a voluntary self-assessment tool that encompasses a range of environmental issues, including fiber sourcing, safety of materials, water conservation and water quality, energy, recycling practices, air quality in manufacturing and social accountability. The Association of Contract Textiles (ACT) recognized the need for the standard in 2003 and initiated a collaboration with GreenBlue for the framework and with NSF International as the standards writing organization. NSF assembled more than 75 member organizations and stakeholders to ensure the creation of the multi-attribute standard which the American National Standards Institute (ANSI) published in March of 2011.
